100th Scout Birthday helps the Cub Scout GROW TOP

Just in case that punchline wasn't heard loudly enough, there it is! What a great meal, entertainment, and company at our annual Blue & Gold banquet! The best part though was recognizing our Cub Scout's achievements. As you know, many "go-see-it's" and conversations happened for so many rank advancements to be earned. It's a job well done, all around!

Riding in Style at the Pinewood Derby! TOP

Thanks to a great group of volunteers let by Mr. V, and in spite of a technical difficulty or two, Pack 71's Cub Scouts cheered their teams and cars with more energy than this Cubmaster ever thought possible! A fun night all around! (We're collecting pix if you have them - send them to the Cubmaster or Webmaster).

Bears tour Foulds' pasta plant in Libertyville TOP

Thanks to a letter written by one of our Bears to the President of Foulds, a group of Bears visited the Foulds pasta plant in Libertyville! Tons of pasta, all shapes and sizes! What a great opportunity to see a Libertyville institution! They're known for their high fiber-content pastas, and make the most popular Mac & Cheese in Israel! Who knew!

Webelos 2's Crossover in Style TOP

Congratulations to our Webelos 2s who earned their Arrow of Light, and to those that crossed over into Boy Scouts! The joy of a job well done by our Webelos 2s shows us the challenges and opportunities available for Cub Scouts!

Service to Our Community in December TOP

Thanks to all the Scouts who performed a service recognized by the Cubmaster Service Award, and to everyone who helped make sandwiches, set up the PADS shelter, write letters to soldiers, and fill Maristella stockings on our Pack Service night. Great work!

2009 Inspection Night at November Pack Meeting TOP

Pack 71 passed uniform inspection at the pack meeting on November 12th with flying colors. Check out these sharp looking scouts below.

Webelos camp w/ Troops 71 & 72 TOP

Eight of Pack 71's Webelos joined Troops 71 & 72 in a frosty overnight Camporee at Adler Park in mid-October. Highlights? Model rocket launches, tent setup, hot camp chili and camp cobbler, Apollo 13, and a short ride home! Congratulations to the older Scouts for making it through!

Fall Campout A Big Success TOP

Pack 71's annual Fall Campout at Camp Oakarro was a fun filled time for all. There were games in the afternoon followed by a terrific cookout courtesy of the Den 3 Webelos. Skits and S'mores highlighted the campfire program. In the morning everyone woke to breakfast care of Chef Dean Kacos. Everyone is counting down the days until Spring Campout!

First Pack Meeting Rocks!! TOP

Cub Scouts returned to a fun-filled, award-filled, and popcorn-filled first pack meeting! "Cooperation" was the theme, and it turned out that we can have a lot of fun when we all work together!

Scouts ride through Old School TOP

A hardy group of bikers took on the Old School Forest Preserve trails on a beautiful morning bike ride! Steve from M&M Cyclery started us off with a safety talk, and after a break at the park, Mr. Plohr led us back into civilization! A great ride!

They Came, They Saw, They Fished! TOP

Great weather for the annual Fishing Derby! Scouts caught some blue gills and got a lot of nibbles off those juicy nightcrawlers. Thanks to Mr. Franz and Mr. Lenzi and all the Scouts and parents for a fun morning!

Pack Marches in Libertyville TOP

The annual Memorial Day Parade and Cook Park service is a great tradition. Congratulations to our Scouts, who represented Pack 71 with style and honor!

Thanks to the Ferreira's and Stavrakos' for organizing one heck of a fine marble shoot! Who needs electronic toys when you've got your marbles!

Pinewood Derby Rules!!! TOP

Thanks to everyone for a great Pinewood Derby race! 41 cars, and assorted guest vehicles, raced into the history books. Got any ideas for how to make that car a little faster next year!??!?

Scouts Show Compassion at December Pack Meeting TOP

Congratulations to 34 of our Scouts that earned the Fall Cubmaster Service Award. Service isn't always rewarded or recognized, but what a great chance to learn how important it is, and how good it can feel. Nice work everyone!

We also received our Quality Unit Award Ribbon, watched Den 3 and 4 perform, and tried to build houses of cards that reached the ceiling (is that why one group started on a table?).

Popcorn Sale Exceeds Expectationss TOP

Pack 71 Scouts are to be congratulated for selling over $6,000 worth of popcorn, generating over $2,000 for Council. Chase Cole led the way with selling over $1,100 of "corn." Congratulations to Chase and all the boys who took time to sell popcorn to support Scouting.

Scouts "Clean Up" at November Pack Meeting TOP

Pack 71 Scouts really showed the pride they have in themselves, their Den and their Pack as they underwent Uniform Inspection. Early results show that 100% of the Scouts passed. Congratulations.

So what should we do when our boys get cleaned up? Take Pictures! And did we ever. Below is a montage of the individual dens.

Other events at the meeting: The Pack received their Summertime Award Ribbon. Justin Adams received his Bobcat Award. Greg, Sue, Matt and Tim Franz were given many gifts for their new adoptive daughter, Elizabeth, whom they're travelling to pick up on 11/19.
