On Saturday, July 17th scouts and parents alike took advantage of a sunny day in the Culver’s parking lot to hold the Annual Pack 71 Cub Scout Car Wash. This was the first year we partnered with Culver’s and everyone agreed, it was a good location. Pack leaders including the event Chair Jim MacAyeal made all the necessary arrangements to get dozens of cars in Libertyville to sparkle. Thanks to all who make the annual fund raiser a success.

A beautiful morning on Lake Minear provided the backdrop for this years Fishing Derby. Over 20 scouts baited hooks and went in search of the big one. Andrew Z. took the prize for smallest fish at 2.75″. Most fish went to Buster N. and the largest fish [an unbelievable 6 whopping inches] was caught by our newest scout Joey F. Way to go Joey!! Nothing like having a new Tiger Scout show you how to do it!! Afterwards a number of scouts stayed for swimming on the beach.

Pack 71 joined scouts of all ages on the giant rock and roll chair float. The giant rock and roll chair was the scouts entry into the theme of the Libertyville Days Parade. It was built by float expert Greg Franz and friends with generous support by North Shore Sign.

Rockets, food, and great weather helped the Pack Picnic become a memorable event for all! Congratulations to the Cubmaster Service Award recipients, who showed how to do a good turn for others in all kinds of ways! And welcome to our new Cubmaster & Assistant Cubmaster, as they chart the Pack through a new scouting year! (Send pix for posting).

A handful of Pack 71’s Scouts joined Scouts from all over the Aptakisic District for some high energy downhill runs at this year’s Cubmobile Derby. Our ACM installed 3 point harnesses off of a Chevy he fund in a junk yard –> now that’s dedication! Here’s one of our riders posing for the camera, and a sample of the cubmobiles made by other packs – all shapes and sizes! (Send more pix for posting)

It was pretty special to see those propeller-propelled pieces of balsa fly along the fishing line! It looked like our Scouts had fun, and boy did we learn a ton. How many rockets did we see go any direction but forward!? There’s a science behind this! Well, the space derby rig belongs to the Pack, so there’s always a chance of doing it again! Last, congratulations to the Wolves for achieving their ranks, and thanks to everyone for keeping your good humor!! (Send pix to the Cubmaster for posting on the website)

Many cheers for the Scouts who were able to participate in this year’s church cleanup. As you can see, the scouts picked up quite a bit on a blustery day. Great job!

Amazing how you can take about 25 Scouts, give them some marbles and a shape on the floor, and off they go! Where’s the electricity? What if the marbles need to be recharged? Where’s Mario? Hah! Who needs modern gizmos! Instead, tons of fun, and some amazing marble shooting! Oh, and Den 2 Bears achieved their rank awards! A great night! (Send pix…)
